County and National draws made

Posted by Oiver Moody on 10 March 2019

The draws for the mens and womens county and national competitions have taken place for Wiltshire and our players now know their opponents for the opening rounds. On the mens side entries were fairly limited. In the national competitions Oliver Moody will travel to Haydon Wick in the singles, while his pair will have a home tie against a duo from Stratton Churchways, his triple also start at home against a trio from Haydon Wick, the toughest tie though may be the trip to take on Mike Titcombe's rink at Westlecott.  Meanwhile at county level Joe Stout will welcome Robbie Ferguson in the unbadged singles, while Oliver Moody is also at home Royal Wootton Bassett's Graham Richards.  Club championship winner Fred Waite will travel to Amesbury in the county Champion of Champions and in the Tourist Trophy our men take on local competition in the way of Stratton Churchways.

We have a lot more representatives on the ladies side, in the National singles Margaret Douthwaite travels to Purton to face Chris Mitchell, while Julie Shakespeare welcomes Deanne Davis.  In the pairs with 4 partnerships featuring, Babs Salter and partner welcome Jean Rennicks, while the other three pairs, Marilyn Harris, Julie Shakespeare and Margaret Douthwaite all travel away to Ramsbury, Westlecott and Purton respectively.  In the triples Marilyn Harris travels to Pewsey Vale, while Babs Salter and Margaret Douthwaite could meet in round 2 if the both win their respective first round ties.  In the fours, Babs Salter welcomes a rink from Chippenham Town, while Marilyn Harris has a first round bye and will travel to Westlecott in round 2.  In the ladies 2 wood Babs Salter, Margaret Douthwaite, Bronwen Rees and Pat Bevan will be at Chippenham Town, while June Corbett, Joyce Lewis and Julie Shakespeare will travel to North Wilts.  In the final National competition, the over 55 fours, we have three teams with Margaret Douthwaite and Jean Siddall both handed home ties, and Babs Salter with a first round bye, before welcoming a 4 from Supermarine in the second round.  At county level Julie Shakespeare welcomes Jean Rennicks of North End in the Champion of Champions, while the ladies team welcome Haydon Wick in the Top Ten compeition.

Results will be posted when possible and hopefully this season will see many of our players going deep in their competitions, and who knows we may even have some representatives at Leamington in September.
