Club Competition Draws Made

Posted by Oiver Moody on 12 May 2019

On a warm Tuesday night a small group gathered to watch on as the draws were made for this years club championships, and there were some interesting ties that came out of the hat.

The first round draws on the gents side threw up so very intriguing matches the pick of those being Gary Plant against last years runner up Bob George,  plus a clash of the young guns as incoming stars Martin Davis and Andy Waite clash.  Defending champion Fred Waite begins his campaign against veteran and 3 time winner Mo Lowes. In the handicap Bob George has another tough first round, taking on a familiar foe in Joe Stout, while Brian Coles begins his defence with an awkward tie against a man who ran him close last year in the form of Martin Davis.  Last years novice runner up Gareth Jones begins against newcomer Tony Packham, while good fiends Oliver Moody and Matt Fox meet in a match that certainly won’t be quiet.  Finally the mens pairs has seen a very strong pairing in last years winner Martin Salter partnering Luke Vizor, while last years other winner, Oliver Moody teams up with Martin Davis.

Meanwhile on the ladies side, the championship sees Babs Salter face last years novice champion in Angela Harrison, while Julie Shakespeare hopes to retain her title, taking on Ida Morton in the opening round,  the handicap sees Julie with another title to defend, taking on Hanna Gauld with s 5 point handicap, while Babs versus Judy Halliard could be the standout tie.  The ladies novice sees only 6 competitors with Marilyn Harris and Hanna Gauld, close friends, clashing one of the semi finals.  The ladies 2 wood sees Margaret Douthwaite begin her defence with a second round tie against June Speck, while the ladies pairs has seen Babs and Margaret paired together, as surely favourites, although they may have fierce competition in the form of Angela Harrison and Carol Woodward.

Our final competition, the mixed pair, definitely won’t be retained, as Oliver Moody’s partner has moved to pastures new, and with his new partner, Hanna Gaud, he faces a tough first round match in the form on Bob George and Judy Hallard.
